Fat Farmers began in 2012 when three farmers near Maitland, SA recognised the positive impact of regular exercise at a time when participation in gym and fitness activities was not common among people living in rural areas. They had finished playing football and quickly realised the community aspect is just as important as an hour-long workout.
What started as a light-hearted idea quickly grew into a nation-wide community movement.
Today, Fat Farmers operates in more than 85 rural communities across WA, SA, QLD, NSW and VIC, supporting physical health, mental wellbeing, and stronger connections across regional Australia.
About the Mobile Health Hub
Fat Farmers believes good health goes beyond physical activity alone. With rural Australians often facing limited access to medical services, the Health Hub was created to bring essential care directly to the community.
We had our successful soft launch of the Health Hub at the Jamestown Christmas Pageant on 7 December 2025. With the support of Preventive Health SA, and along with Flinders University International Centre for Point-of-Care Testing, we were able to provide diabetes and heart health checks to over 50 rural community members.
