We thank the Dept for Human Services for supporting our establishment of a Physical and Mental Health support Community Connection Zone at the Pioneer Adventure Day.
It will be a central feature designed to bring together people from drought-affected regional communities in a safe, inclusive, and supportive environment.
By offering a calm, welcoming space, we'll facilitate meaningful conversations, reduce isolation, and connect people with essential social, emotional and health supports often not easily available in rural communities.
Farming families and their supporting communities under financial stress and those impacted by mental health challenges will be invited in. The Zone will host mental health professionals, family support workers, and volunteers who will provide culturally safe and non-judgmental support.
Low price and free refreshments, shaded seating, resource packs, and peer-led sessions will help create a relaxed environment that encourages engagement. By reducing stigma around help-seeking and creating a “soft entry” point into the service system, this project will empower attendees to take positive steps toward improving their wellbeing.
The Connection Zone model aims to build community resilience by strengthening social bonds, improving awareness of local services, and fostering a sense of belonging and shared experience. It aims to serve as a catalyst for ongoing community connection well beyond the day of our event.
