A local not-for-profit community group Murraylands Community Men's Shed is part of the wider Men’s Shed movement supported by the Australian Men's Shed Association, which promotes social connection, practical skills and wellbeing for men.

Murraylands Community Men’s Shed activities

The shed is basically a workshop and social place for men to meet, share skills and work on projects. Its goals include:

  • Friendship and mateship – a place for men to meet, talk and enjoy company.
  • Hands-on activities – woodwork, metalwork, repairs, restoration and community projects.
  • Learning and sharing skills – experienced members teach others.
  • Community projects – making or repairing items that help local groups.
  • Wellbeing – helping reduce loneliness and giving men somewhere positive to go.

Many men join simply to have a cuppa, chat and get out of the house, while others enjoy building things or helping with projects.

The shed operates around Murray Bridge / Murraylands region, with facilities established at the Murray Bridge Showgrounds (Gate 3) with support from the Rural City of Murray Bridge Council.

New members most welcome

The shed actively encourages new members, including:

  • Retired men
  • Men seeking company and friendship
  • People wanting to learn practical skills
  • Anyone who enjoys helping with community projects

Members typically attend the shed on weekday mornings during open sessions and participate in whatever projects interest them.

Members of the Murraylands Community Men’s Shed will have a display at the Rotary Pioneer Adventure Day and anyone with an interest in getting involved is encouraged to have a chat with them.
